LBMA Good Delivery Refiner explained

The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) is the international trade association representing the London market for gold and silver bullion… One of the responsibilities of the LBMA is to maintain the London Good Delivery List.

The London Good Delivery List is recognised as the international benchmark standard for the quality of gold and silver bars. When buying bullion one typically ensures that the bullion is produced by a refiner which is on the the London Good Delivery List. This is because such refiners are generally accepted by bullion dealers the world over.

But how important is it to buy bullion from refiners on the London Good Delivery List? Bleyer Bullion explains further in this article.

Personally I would still prefer to purchase bullion from refiners who are certified by the LBMA. Even though bullion from other refiners can still be good enough quality and may still be acceptable to bullion dealers. If you have the choice, why take on the extra risk? However in times of bullion shortage such as during Covid-19, one may not have that choice…
